Mr. Oliver Alawuba is a seasoned banker and corporate leader with over 25 years of extensive experience in banking and financial services across Africa.
He is the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, one of Africa’s largest and most respected financial institutions with operations in 20 African countries, the United Kingdom, the United States, and France.

Born on 20th June 1966, Mr. Alawuba holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Food Science and Technology, as well as an MBA in Banking and Finance. He is an alumnus of the Senior Executive Programme at London Business School and the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD Business School, France. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management and a Senior Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria.

He began his banking career in 1997 as a pioneer staff of the former Standard Trust Bank, which later merged with UBA. Over the years, he has held several strategic leadership positions, including Executive Director (East Bank, Nigeria), Regional CEO for Africa, CEO of UBA Ghana, and Group Deputy Managing Director/CEO (Africa), before his appointment as GMD/CEO of UBA Group in August 2022.

A result-oriented leader with deep expertise in corporate banking, retail banking, public sector finance, and pan-African business strategy, Mr. Alawuba brings valuable private sector insight, financial acumen, and strategic thinking to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, particularly in areas of sustainable funding, operational efficiency, and public-private partnerships for enhanced security infrastructure in Lagos State.
