Mr. Walter Akpani is a highly accomplished banker and financial services leader with over three decades of extensive experience in banking operations, treasury management, bank start-ups, and institutional restructuring in Nigeria.

He is the founding Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Providus Bank Limited, a commercial bank with a strong focus on corporate banking, digital innovation, and sustainable growth. Under his leadership, the bank has carved a niche for itself in the Nigerian banking industry.

Mr. Akpani has been actively involved in several landmark bank establishments and transformations. He was a pioneer staff member at ICON Stockbrokers, a member of the restructuring team at Commercial Trust Bank, a pioneer staff at Standard Trust Bank Plc (now United Bank for Africa – UBA), and a pioneer staff at Platinum Bank Limited (now Keystone Bank). He also previously served as Vice President, Institutional Banking at Platinum Bank before founding United Mortgage Bank Limited, which later evolved into Providus Bank.

He holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Finance from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland. Widely respected as a distinguished treasury expert and a change agent in the Nigerian banking sector, Mr. Akpani brings deep financial acumen, strategic leadership, and private sector insight to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund. His expertise is particularly valuable in areas of sustainable funding mechanisms, operational efficiency, and public-private partnerships aimed at strengthening security infrastructure across Lagos State.
